School on Wheels of MA seeks tutors for children impacted by homelessness
Afterschool tutors needed for children in gr. K-12 in Stoughton, Brockton, New Bedfd, Fall River, Norwell, Randolph, and Weymouth.

(BROCKTON, MA) – Can you spare a couple of hours a week to influence the future of a child impacted by homelessness? School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is seeking one-on-one afterschool tutors to work with children in grades K-12 starting in January 2016. Tutors are needed at shelters, hotels, and schools in Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford, Norwell, Randolph, Stoughton and Weymouth. People who speak Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole are invited to volunteer.
Each SOWMA tutor is matched with a student for one or two hours a week. Tutors work with students on homework and school projects. Tutoring sessions are designed to fill in the layers of learning that may be missing due to frequent moves and school absences. Every SOWMA tutor is expected to serve as a mentor and positive role model. Teens and adults aged 18 and older are needed. No prior experience is required. High school students may tutor with a parent or other adult they know.
SOWMA volunteers must attend a 3-hour Tutor Training before beginning to volunteer. Tutor Trainings will be held in January in the following places on the noted days and times:
