Southeastern will be hosting its Arts Appreciation Night on Thursday, February 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The night features a play, The Actor’s Nightmare, which will take place at 7:30. The short, comic play will be directed by two Southeastern seniors, Mark Wilburn, of East Bridgewater, and John Hamelburg, of Brockton.
Students from all different shops will be participating in the play, as well as in a variety of exhibits and performances. The public is invited, and there is no cost for admission (with a $5 suggested donation). There will be exhibits in robotics, photography, illustration, painting, visual design, web design, animation, video, and music. Culinary students will also serve refreshments.
Performing Arts teacher Kerri Cooper said that she is extremely proud of her two student directors, who worked together on almost every aspect of the play, including choosing the cast. She said the play was very challenging to cast because it includes only six acting roles, and thirty people auditioned for the parts.

“They had eight sheets with eight different cast lists. The process was extensive, but they got the best actors for the parts,” she said.
The Actor’s Nightmare was written by Christopher Durang. Its main character is an accountant named George Spelvin, who is forced to perform in a play after he is mistaken for an actor’s understudy. It is based on actors’ fears of forgetting their lines when they are onstage.
