SRVTHS Seniors Graduate with State Certification and Licenses in Cosmetology
Thirteen Seniors Leave High School Ready for Beauty Industry Careers

Hard work, study and practical application of skills have paid off for 13 seniors at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School as they became state certified, licensed cosmetologists. Having passed both the Written and Practical Examination satisfactory to the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology, along with fulfilling the state requirement of 1000 hours of practical and written instruction at the high school, they are ready to enter the work force and practice the art of hairdressing and aesthetics.
Cosmetology instructors Mary Kobey and Christine Gauthier explained that Southeastern Regional not only provides the necessary instructional content and hours, but also makes sure students are career ready and licensed. Testing day started at 5:45 am when students and staff gathered at Southeastern Regional for school provided transportation to Pierson VUE in Malden where state testing takes place. Students brought their own models for the 3 ½ hour practical portion of the test - mothers, friends, anyone they chose, as long as they were not a cosmetology student or licensed cosmetologist themselves.
The practical portion tested knowledge of Infection Control & Safety, Basic Facial, Makeup Application, Basic Manicure, Polish Application, Haircolor (retouch and highlighting), Chemical Relaxer, Permanent Wave, Braiding, Finger Wave and Pin Curls, Shampoo, Basic Layered Haircut Shears/Scissors, Thermal Styling (blow drying and curling iron). The 2 hour written portion focused on rules, regulations and safety, sanitation, trichology (structure of hair, hair type and hair growth phases), shampoo / scalp analysis, styling, haircutting, hair color, bleaching/lightening, permanent waving, chemical straightening and relaxing, esthetics and nails. Students were awarded their licenses the same day as the test.

Students expressed gratitude for the instruction and support of their school in preparing them in their chosen careers, because professionally trained and licensed individuals are in constant demand in the work force. Through their training at Southeastern, students learn to work and analyze what the client will need in any area of hair, makeup and skin care, along with work ethic, life skills and competencies needed for lifelong learning and career success. Career paths include licensed cosmetologist, hair designer, manicurist and make-up artist.

Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School is a public 9-12 vocational high school located in South Easton, Massachusetts, serving approximately 1,400 students from the city of Brockton and the towns of East Bridgewater, Easton, Foxborough, Mansfield, Norton, Sharon, Stoughton, and West Bridgewater.
