SRVTHS Student Awarded Scholarship Certificate to Universal Technical Institute
Sophomore Anthony Fiorillo Excels in Auto Repair

Anthony Fiorillo, a sophomore studying in the Automotive Technology career choice at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, received an award of $1500.00 towards tuition, should he choose to attend the Universal Technical Institute in Norwood, MA. He received the scholarship certificate after winning a silver medal in Auto Repair at SkillsUSA District Competition.
“I was surprised. I didn’t think it was going to be that much of a scholarship. That was impressive,” said Anthony. “Before I started doing all this I wasn’t as interested in SkillsUSA, but once I got there, I found out it was a lot of fun. I tried my best on the written test about SkillsUSA and automotive knowledge, and I guess I did pretty well.”
“Anthony holds himself to a high standard in shop,” said Mr. Braga, Auto Tech instructor. “He’s also an honor roll student, which shows that he recognizes the importance of doing well academically as well as vocationally. His group of sophomores are all very talented in Automotive Tech, so they keep challenging each other. Anthony was able to do really well in SkillsUSA as a result, and we’re hoping that next year, he’ll do even better as a high school junior.”

Anthony has always been interested in automotive repair. “My dad was into dirt bike riding when I was younger. I started working on them with my dad when I was around seven years old, and then got interested in cars, which is really a more complicated form of dirt bike, when you think about it.” Now a teenager, Anthony continues to work with his father, both on his own truck and on his father’s vehicles. He hopes to work this summer, and plans continue his trade after graduation from Southeastern Regional.
