Holiday basketball tournaments highlight week ahead.

After a successful week that included basketball’s wins over Sharon last Tuesday and hockey’s first victory of the year against Quincy on Wednesday, the Oliver Ames sports teams have a busy post-holiday slate ahead.

This week's notable events include the Sue Rivard and Val Muscato basketball tournaments, track and field's divisional showdown with Sharon, wrestling's appearance at the Marshfield Invitational and hockey's non-league road matchup. Here’s a further look at the week ahead.

Basketball

With boys coach Don Byron and girls coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook leading their respective teams to a quick start this winter, it’s only appropriate that they to share the Nixon Gymnasium floor in their first round tournament matchups Tuesday.

Clement-Holbrook's squad kicks things off at 4 p.m. Tuesday when they take the floor for its first round matchup of the Sue Rivard tournament against Bridgewater-Ryanham.

The Lady Tigers will face either New Mission or Plymouth South in day two of the annual tournament either at 6 p.m. for the consolation game or at 7:30 p.m. for the championship matchup.

Meanwhile, the OA boys will take the Nixon Gymnasium floor at 7:30 Tuesday night in its first round matchup of the Val Muscato tournament against Dartmouth.

Byron and company will face either Belmont or Medfield in day two of the Muscato Tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. (consolation game) or 7:30 p.m. (championship game).

Wrestling

Fresh off an appearance in a quad meet at Marshfield high school, head coach Adam Pomella and the rest of the OA wrestling team will be making a return trip for the Marshfield invitational Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

OA ends its week in another tournament at Middelboro high school Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Hockey

Following a tough loss to North Attleboro to start the season, first year coach Jim Sullivan earned his first win of his varsity coaching career last Wednesday at Quincy.

Sullivan, who still serves as the junior varsity coach, will look to get his second career varsity victory in the team’s lone appearance at Pembroke Wednesday night for a 6:10 p.m. faceoff.

Track

After a week off, head coach Mike Darling and the rest of the 2-0 winter track team(s) prepares for a crucial Davenport Division matchup against Sharon on Wednesday morning at the Reggie Lewis Center. The opening event will take place at 9 a.m.

Swimming

Following a tough loss against King Philip, the OA swim teams will have some time to regroup before its next meet on Jan. 4 against Mansfield.
