Easton Police Charge Three In Crime Spree

A Sharon man and two local men were arrested.

In what has been a busy week for Easton police, one Sharon resident and two Easton residents were arrested after investigations in a crime spree that spanned most of the month of September and included larceny, armed robbery and a stolen motor vehicle.

Easton police were helped by area police departments in Mansfield, Sharon and Stoughton as the crime wave involved multiple communities and a number of suspects.

Matthew J. Roberto, 20, of 573 Depot St., Easton, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of armed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and conspiracy to rob a bank.

Shortly after Roberto's arrest, police arrested two more men believed to be associated with the incident. Matthew Sarnowitz, 28, of 9 Dogwood Lane, Easton, was arrested on Sunday and charged with larceny from a building, two counts of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and conspiracy. Robert Braverman, 23, of Sharon, was arrested on Monday and charged with armed robbery.

Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik said the trio's crime spree began on Sept. 6 with the larceny of cash from Golf Country Driving Range on Turnpike Street. Police believe that Sarnowitz distracted the owner and robbed the cash register while Roberto drove the getaway car.

Eleven days later, the trio was believed to be involved in the robbery of North Easton Savings Bank on Eastman Street, followed by a home invasion in Brockton the next day. During the home invasion, the suspects were believed to have stolen a motorcycle that was used in subsequent incidents, Krajcik said.

After stealing the motorcycle, the men were believed to have been involved in the robbery of Sharon Credit Union in Sharon on Sept. 22, and Citizens Bank in Stoughton on Sept. 30. In both incidents, the suspects used the motorcycle as a getaway vehicle.

Police staked out Roberto's house of following the robbery in Stoughton. Roberto eventually admitted to the crimes, according to the police. It took another day to find Sarnowitz, however, who fled after Roberto's arrest. Braverman was arrested after continued investigations. Braverman was only charged with the robbery of North Easton Savings Bank.

Alleged Drunk Driver Makes Officer's Job Easier

Mark Lewis, 46,  of 231 Main St. Apt 2 North Easton, was arrested and charged with a second offense of drunk driving Saturday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m.

According to Krajcik, police dispatchers received calls about a drunk driver on Main Street. When cruisers looked for the vehicle they couldn't locate it. Shortly after, Lewis, appearing intoxicated to dispatchers, arrived at the station looking to talk to an officer. Officer Leonard Coe and Sgt. Keith Nunes returned to the station and after an investigation, arrested Lewis.
