UPDATED: Lightning Storm Leaves Mark in Easton; Shuts Off Power for Many

A tree fell on Rockland Street Saturday morning and shut off power for much of the community.

A tree fell across Rockland Street this morning, knocking out power for Easton residents in North Easton Village and the Borderland State Park area to the Sharon line.

Easton Fire Captain David Beals said crews were on Rockland Street working to clear the road and National Grid was working to restore power.

Beals said Rockland Street is currently closed to motorists but would likely be open in the next hour.

The tree's collapse came along with reports of a tree that was struck by lightning near 153 North Main Street. Beals said no damage was caused as a result of that lightning strike. Additionally, officials responded to excessive smoke in an electrical room at 15 Foundry Street (Fox Run Condominiums). Officials responded and have not found any excessive damage.

The multiple calls and resulting power outages were caused by a lightning storm that swept across Easton this morning. The National Weather Service has warned that storms may persist through 1 p.m.
