Who Are the Greenest Members of the Easton Community?

The Greenest of Easton Awards were recently handed out to six members of the community.

Six member of the Easton community have been honored for their efforts to make Easton a greener community.

During Monday’s selectmen meeting, the Greenest of Easton Awards selected by the Easton Green Community Community were revealed, giving awards to those promoting recycling, sustainability and more.

Winners received a citation from both the State House of Representatives and the State Senate.

Below are the six winners:

Christopher Getchell, principal of the Parkview School - For utilizing outdoor classrooms and schools gardens as a tool to help teach and empower young leaders. He helped expand the garden in front of the school and other gardens behind the school. Also, he assisted in started a composting and recycling program to reduce school waste.

Southeastern Regional Green Team — For embracing and promoting sustainability at the school. A rooftop garden watered by the moisture produced by the air conditioner and single stream recycling was introduced.

The Olmsted School Green Team - For making strides in recycling and starting an energy patrol team made up of students who spend time during recess and after school turning off lights and unused devices that waste electricity.

Karen Cacciapuoti - For her efforts with the elementary school gardens, the outdoor education program at children’s museum, and promotion of agricultural literacy programs.

Greenest Business in Easton - Langwater Farm for offering locally organic food and flowers. The 30-acre farm leases an addition 26 though a partnership with the town at Wheaton Farm on Bay Road. A 50 percent increase in organic veggie production is expected over the next few years because of the partnership.

Greenest Teacher in Easton - Sheila Dever-David for her efforts to promote and embrace sustainability as a kindergarten teacher at the Parkview School.
