25-Mile Backup on Cape Cod As July 4th Weekend Ends
A 25-mile backup formed on Route 6 in Cape Cod Tuesday afternoon as the July 4th weekend came to a close.
Traffic leaving Cape Cod Tuesday afternoon reached nightmare levels, with a 25-mile backup stretching from Orleans to Bourne.
Hours-long delays were reported on Route 6 west heading to the Sagamore Bridge and Route 25 north heading to the Bourne Bridge.
Making things worse were accidents on Route 6 in Sandwich and Orleans and heavy morning rain.

The good news? Things started clearing up around 4 p.m., but backups were still reported on Route 6 west in Dennis and parts of Bourne.
