5 Cape Cod Beaches Closed After Great White Shark Sightings

Sharks have been spotted lurking off area coastlines since last weekend, including on Thursday, when great whites were again detected.

FALMOUTH, MA — Five Cape Cod beaches have been closed to swimmers after great white shark sightings were reported in the area, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

According to the conservancy’s mobile app, swimmers were ordered out of the water for at least an hour at Newcomb Hollow Beach and Maguire Landing Beach in Wellfleet, Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, Nauset Beach in Orleans and Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.

The conservancy posted video of one of its shark biologists, Greg Skomal, tagging a white shark Thursday morning off of Naucet beach.

According to reports, great white sharks were sighted at Newcomb Hollow Beach on Tuesday and Wednesday, which came days after video posted by the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing showed sharks swimming about 50 yards offshore over the weekend.
