5 Things You Need to Know Today, 3/16

A talk on the Irish in Massachusetts and more for March 16.

1) Today we'll have a slight chance of showers before 9am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9am and noon, then showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. It will be cloudy, with a high near 46. Tonight we'll have a chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.

2) The is pleased to announce a series of workshops focusing on specific areas of needs encountered by students of art. Each workshop will include a demonstration as well as time to paint. Today from 9am-noon will be the Anatomy of the Nude with Robert Mesrop. Having trouble drawing figures? This is the workshop for you. 3) Tonight at 6:30pm, the will host "Irish Need Not Apply: A History of the Irish in Massachusetts." In advance of St. Patrick’s Day, historian Christopher Daley will look at how the Irish emigrated and survived coming to Massachusetts. $5 donation at the door.

4) Tonight at 8pm, the Woods Hole Theater Company at 68 Water Street presents "American Buffalo" by David Mamet, directed by Bill Ring, featuring Tom Lyons, Stephen Peck and Rick Bourgeois. 5) This day in history: the U.S. Military Academy is established (1802); the My Lai massacre takes place in Vietnam (1968); and actor Robert Blake is acquitted of his wife's murder (2005).
