A talk on the Battle of Gettysburg and more for March 7.

4) The Battle of Gettysburg is regarded as the turning point in the Civil War; both the battle and the battlefield were enormous and complex. Professors Claudine Barnes and Debra Murphy of Cape Cod Community College will discuss this turning point tonight at 7pm at the . Professor Barnes, who teaches courses on the Civil War at the College, will discuss how the North was able to win this major battle. Professor Murphy, who spends summers as a volunteer at the Gettysburg National Military Park, will discuss the meaning of that battle for Americans 150 years later. 

5) This day in history: Alexander Graham Bell patents the telephone (1876); Indy 500 driver Janet Guthrie is born (1938); and director Stanley Kubrick dies (1999).
