5 Things You Need to Know Today, 5/18

Service Learning Day at Mullen-Hall Elementary and more for May 18.

1) Today will be sunny, with a high near 62. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 49. 

2) Be on the lookout today for groups of children and parents roaming the streets of Falmouth aiming to make a difference! Over 550 students and staff from will participate in "Helping Hands Day," a day of service learning throughout the Falmouth community. Students will learn the importance of volunteerism by actively engaging in a service project that betters their immediate community. In small groups with teachers and over 70 parent volunteers, students will work on projects on the school campus, as well as dozens of nearby locations such as the Senior Center, the Service Center and the Fire Station. Projects range from beach clean-up to planting the new Mullen Hall School Garden to reading aloud to preschoolers. 

3) In honor of Police Officers Memorial Day, the will conduct a memorial service today at 10am to commemorate all police officers who have died in the line of duty, especially Falmouth police officer Samuel F. Pierce, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident on August 16, 1933 while on duty. The ceremony will begin at 10am in front of the Falmouth Police Department with a procession of uniformed officers led by the FPD's Honor Guard. Town Manager Julian Suso will be the guest speaker. The public is welcome to attend.

4) The Woods Hole Theater Company presents "Beyond Therapy" tonight at 8pm at the . Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door starting at 7pm.
