3) Today from 1-6pm, Academy Lane off Main Street will be open to pedestrians only to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a street festival. The street will be decorated for the fiesta, will provide refreshments, and the Daniel Byrnes Band will perform live. Kevin Matthews of WCOD/106.1 will broadcast live from the event from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The Festival is free, and all food and drink items on the street will be only $5, in honor of Cinco de Mayo.

4) Come on out to the at 4pm today for "Fairy Tales, Farce, and Flinging Fun," a unique family show to celebrate spring and raise money for the arts. The show will feature a special collaboration of puppetry, slapstick, juggling and song showcasing the skills and materials of Jacek Zuzinski, Lee Drescher and Al Moniz. Mr. Zuzinski and his Dreamtime Puppets will be performing a production of Jack and the Beanstalk that combines puppetry with mime. Keeping with the theme, Ms. Drescher, in the character of Mrs. Treasure, will sing songs of planting, growing and harvesting. Mr. Moniz, of The Suspenders, will string the show together with his own brand of antics. A $5 donation is suggested.
5) This day in history: Napoleon dies in exile (1821); Cinco de Mayo is first celebrated in Mexico (1862); and Alan Shepard, Jr. becomes the first American in space (1961).
