• Falmouth Didn't Build Its Own Network, But a Citizen-Led Effort Still Brought Fiber to Town (broadbandbreakfast.com) — Falmouth residents and businesses are set to gain new fiber internet options as Gateway Fiber begins building a network in town, following years of citizen advocacy through FalmouthNet and the Municipal Light Plant. Most addresses should be served, competition is already pressuring Comcast to lower prices, and a ribbon-cutting is planned for October 27, with preorders now open online.
• Mental health listening tour brings focus to Cape Cod's challenges (capecodtimes.com) — Cape Cod's growing mental health response now includes a Hope Squad peer-support program at Falmouth High School, launched in 2022 to help students spot and respond to warning signs of suicide. During a state listening tour stop, officials heard how Harwich-based Sharing Kindness and school-based efforts are tackling Barnstable County's especially high youth suicide risk with new funding and expanded grief and prevention services.
