Fatal Crash Near Bourne Bridge: 1 Dead, 4 Hurt

A woman was killed and four people were hurt near the Bourne Bridge Sunday when a tractor-trailer collided with a sport utility vehicle.

BOURNE, MA — A 61-year-old Middleborough woman was killed and a teenager was seriously hurt when police said a tractor-trailer collided with a sport utility vehicle near the Bourne Bridge Sunday afternoon. A 15-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries and was medflighted to Rhode Island Hospital, State Police said. Three others suffered minor injuries.

The woman who died was identified as Deborah Carney, police said Monday.

The crash happened at about 4 p.m. on Route 28 north just before the Bourne Bridge. Police said a 2012 Freightliner struck the rear of a Honda CR-V. Another vehicle, an Acura MDX, was also involved in the crash.

Carney and the four who were hurt were occupants of the Honda, police said. The Freightliner driver was identified as a 43-year-old Lynn man. He was not hurt.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
