Barnstable County Sheriff Buckley Makes 13 Promotions

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA — Barnstable County Sheriff Donna Buckley continued a restructuring of the office in her early months of the position by promoting 13 staff members at a recent ceremony.

During her first four months in office, Buckley assessed the operational structure of the organization, which had been under the previous sheriff since 1999.

The promotions were based on a list of criteria that included job performance and training. She also asked the candidates how they would help accomplish her mission to ensure data-driven safety and security along with providing mental health and addiction treatment, job training and re-entry into the community, a news release said.

Buckley ultimately promoted five new sergeants, four new captains and four assistant deputy superintendents.

“Attaining a promotion is not something that is easily done,” Buckley said during a May 16 promotion ceremony at the Upper Cape Regional Technical High School’s Canalside Dining Room. “You have dedicated much of your life to this office and I am forever grateful for it.”

Three of the officers promoted have over 24 years of experience at the BCSO. All but one have more than 15 years.

The following officers have been promoted to assistant deputy superintendent:

• Lou Langton

Promoted to the rank of captain are:

• Kenneth Shaffer

Promoted to the rank of sergeant are:

• John Cinelli
• Brittney Martinsen
• David Wiseman
