Barnstable Sheriff's Office Employee On Leave After Reported Assault
The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office is investigating the report of an assault and battery of a person in custody, officials said.
CAPE COD, MA — A Barnstable County Sheriff's Office employee is on leave after allegations they assaulted a person who was in custody.
The office issued a statement confirming that an investigation was ongoing, and the result would determine how that leave of absence would end.

"The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating an allegation of employee assault and battery upon an individual entrusted to its care and custody. The matter has also been referred to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office for investigation.
The accused employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of these ongoing investigations."
