Barnstable Sheriff's Office Welcomes 10 New Corrections Officers

MASHPEE, MA — Barnstable County welcomed 10 new corrections officers at a ceremony on Friday, the Sheriff's Office announced.

Cadets from the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Training Academy were sworn in and became corrections officers at a ceremony at Mashpee High School. Sheriff Donna Buckley presided over the graduation ceremony and offered the oath of office to the new corrections professionals, who will begin work on Monday, according to a news release.

"Our jail and house of correction is not simply a place where we warehouse people until they are released. It is not a place where our job is to simply keep our inmates closed off from our community," said Buckley.

"In fact, our mission is to seize the opportunity to work closely with our inmates to prepare them to go back to their families and their communities with newfound tools to re-engage."

State Sen. Susan Moran (D-Falmouth) was also present and delivered remarks during the ceremony. Other local officials including State Rep. Kip Diggs, (D-Barnstable), Brewster Police Chief Heath Eldredge and Mashpee Wampanoag Police Chief Kevin Frye were in attendance, too.

The 2022-03 Academy was led by Capt. Donald Doyle and assisted by Lt. Corey Cameron.
