Battery Explosion Sparks Cape Cod Fire, Officials Say
One person suffered serious burn injuries during a weekend explosion and fire in South Yarmouth.
SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod resident suffered serious burns after a battery explosion over the weekend.
Yarmouth Fire and Rescue officials responded to a 12:22 p.m. 911 call from the owner of 139 North Main St., South Yarmouth, reporting the battery explosion which sparked a fire.
The caller told officials that a resident sustained the burn injuries, but all occupants were evacuated from the building.

Yarmouth officials requested aid from Dennis and Hyannis officials at the scene to work the fire.
The burn victim was treated at the scene before being taken to Barnstable Municipal Airport where they were met by Boston MedFlight and transported for further care, officials said.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, though officials said damage was "primarily contained to the area of origin" after being quickly brought under control.
