Blue Ribbons Awarded At Falmouth Art Center

Twelve artists received blue ribbons in the Falmouth Art Center’s annual Members Juried Show. The exhibit is on display in person at the center through August 30.

Meg Maggio, owner and gallery director at Pekin Fine Arts in Beijing and Hong Kong, awarded the blue ribbons to her favorite pieces in the show of 112 works. The juror of the annual Members Blue Ribbon Exhibit is also responsible for coming up with the categories for each blue ribbon.

A list of the categories compiled by Ms. Maggio and the artists who received blue ribbons for their work follows:

Best Sculpture & Marriage of Skill, Material & Composition: Robert Scutt of North Falmouth, “Knot Fish,” white pine; Best Abstraction: Barbara Gaffron of Falmouth, “Bouquet #3,” alcohol ink, pen and ink; Best Printmaking: Andrea Moore of Falmouth, “White Cosmos,” monoprint.

Best Mixed Media/Thinking Outside the Box: Suzy Marden of Falmouth, “Still Life Flowers,” mixed media on map; Best Realist Print: Sophia Adelstein of Falmouth, “Under Glass,” drypoint etching; Best Craftsmanship: Frances Merton of Centerville, “Medley,” glass.

Best Watercolor: Peg Wilson of West Falmouth, “Twilight Fire,” watercolor; Most Regionally Significant: Patricia Calkins-Martin of East Falmouth, “Woods Hole Bound!,” oil; Best Semi-Abstract Print: Alice Nicholson Galick of East Falmouth, “The Orchard,” monoprint.

Best Photography: Milt Williamson of West Falmouth, “Glorious Sunflower,” photography; Best Watercolor Landscape/Local Scene: Marian Colman of Falmouth, “Wood Neck Marsh,” watercolor; Special Award, Best Innovative Photography: George Taylor of Falmouth, “Clouds over Reykjavik,” digital photo.

The Falmouth Art Center at 137 Gifford Street is free and open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM.
