Brush Fire Hits Cape Cod Amid Red Flag Warning
The fire near a rod and gun club in Mashpee eventually burned to a half-acre before being extinguished.
MASHPEE, MA — As severe fire conditions continue across much of the state, Cape Cod fire departments were rushed into action on Sunday afternoon for a brush fire.
Mashpee officials said the fire was reported near the local rod and gun club that was in "close proximity to many houses."
"Mashpee responded with the assistance of forestry units from Sandwich, Joint Base Cape Cod, West Barnstable, and MA DCR," officials said.

The fire eventually burned to a half-acre, but was controlled and extinguished later in the same afternoon, officials said.
This news comes as a red flag warning continues for 12 counties in Massachusetts, including all of the Cape and islands. On Cape Cod, and in Mashpee, all outside burning is prohibited until further notice.
