The Important Role of Nobska Light in “A Home in Woods Hole: Life and History on Eel Pond”The house at the center of Elizabeth Heslop Sheehy’s A Home in Woods House: Life and History on Eel Pond was built by a former resident of Nobska Point. Walter Nickerson was the son of Oliver Nickerson, longest-serving keeper at the iconic lighthouse. His older and younger brothers both played roles in Nobska’s history, as well as his youngest sister, Florence. Their stories include a murder trial, many boating adventures and a scandalous marriage betrayal. The author will highlight some of the stories that link her house on Millfield Street to the beautifully restored Keeper’s House at the heart of Woods Hole.$20 Non-Members/$10 Museums on the Green Members, or donation based ticket. Light refreshments served.

The Falmouth Art Center presents a solo exhibition by Jim Weinberg. With over 30 oil paintings, the show covers a variety of subject matter, including animals, natural landscapes, and interiors and exteriors of buildings. He uses a variety of technique and color to create balance in each work.
The Opening Reception for this show is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 5:00-7:00pm. This reception is also for two additional shows Celebrating Falmouth Ponds in the Landrau-Partan Gallery, and Juried Photography Exhibition in the Hermann Gallery.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. There’s an emphasis on emotional intelligence, teaching kids how to manage their feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Our amazing helps kids learn to share, collaborate, and support one another, fostering a sense of community. The facility embraces children from all backgrounds and is sensitive to cultural differences, making sure all children feel accepted and valued. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
