Celebrate the power of creativity and its connection to our shared history with a screening of Craft in America: Democracy. This Peabody Award–winning documentary explores how the handmade is woven into our nation’s identity, reflecting its defining ideals. The screening will take place on Wednesday, July 1, 7:00 p.m. at Highfield Hall & Gardens, 56 Highfield Drive, Falmouth. The event is free. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is requested and information is at highfieldhallandgardens.org or call 508-495-1878 ext. 2.

Through compelling stories, Democracy highlights the African American experience and legacy of racial injustice, shares voices from the Veterans History Project, explores the design of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, and considers the role of cursive handwriting in our founding documents—underscoring the essential role of the arts in American life.

The event is part of Craft in America's "Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026," a nationwide initiative to celebrate the diversity of crafts that define America and bring underrepresented art and artists into the spotlight. Following the 56-minute film, stay for a discussion with members of the artist community, Highfield, and the Falmouth Cultural Council.
