Lectures are free and open to the public for in-person and virtual attendance.“RNAi Across Scales: From Model Organisms to Clinical Therapies” - Rachel Meyers, Sunrise BioventuresThis talk traces the path from fundamental discovery of small&nbsp;interfering RNA (siRNA) to highlighting the engineering and innovations&nbsp;needed to translate siRNA into a clinical therapeutic. RNA interference&nbsp;(RNAi) emerged from two unexpected observations: the puzzling&nbsp;co-suppression of pigmentation genes in petunias, and the discovery in&nbsp;C. elegans that double-stranded RNA could trigger potent,&nbsp;sequence-specific gene silencing. These findings revealed a conserved&nbsp;biological mechanism and launched a new therapeutic modality capable of&nbsp;silencing disease-causing genes with incredible precision.The first example of this successful translation was an siRNA&nbsp;therapeutic for the treatment of transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis, a&nbsp;fatal disease caused by the accumulation of misfolded protein in nerves&nbsp;and heart tissue. The journey that led to siRNA therapies for this&nbsp;disease highlights the non-linear path of drug discovery and&nbsp;development, reveals a platform in the making and illustrates how basic&nbsp;biology can be harnessed for transformative clinical impact.Rachel Meyers is an entrepreneurial scientist actively involved in the&nbsp;biotech and pharma community. She is a member of the board of directors&nbsp;for Korro Bio, a nucleic acid therapeutics company focused on RNA&nbsp;editing as well as an Atlas Ventures StealthCo in the nucleic acid&nbsp;therapeutics space. She serves as a scientific advisor to Alnylam&nbsp;Pharmaceuticals, the pioneer of RNAi therapeutics; Arrakis Therapeutics,&nbsp;a small-molecule company focused on targeting RNA; and CAMP4&nbsp;Therapeutics, a nucleic acid therapeutics company focused on upregulating RNA transcription. Meyers is a founding partner of Sunrise&nbsp;Bioventures, a nucleic acid accelerator, and serves as acting CEO at&nbsp;AmyGo Solutions, a startup focused on early detection in amyloidosis. In&nbsp;addition to other advisory roles across industry and academia, Meyers&nbsp;serves as a mentor with several local and national biotech&nbsp;entrepreneurial programs.&nbsp;Meyers has more than 25 years of drug discovery and development&nbsp;expertise as well as extensive experience in building R&amp;D&nbsp;organizations. Previously, she served as Founder and Chief Scientific&nbsp;Officer at Faze Medicines, a Third Rock Ventures-backed biotech company&nbsp;focused on treating diseases with high unmet medical need by perturbing&nbsp;biomolecular condensates. She has deep expertise in the development of&nbsp;RNA-based therapies, having spent 14 years at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals,&nbsp;helping to build the company from the beginning, ultimately serving as&nbsp;the SVP of Research and RNAi Lead Development. Prior to Alnylam, Meyers held various scientific roles at Millennium Pharmaceuticals.Meyers completed her postdoctoral training with Lew Cantley at Harvard&nbsp;Medical School in the field of signal transduction and received her&nbsp;Ph.D. from Nobel laureate Phil Sharp at MIT in the field of in vitro&nbsp;transcription. She served on the National Advisory Council on Innovation&nbsp;and Entrepreneurship (NACIE) during the Biden administration. Meyers is&nbsp;listed as an inventor on many patents and patent applications and is an&nbsp;author on numerous peer-reviewed publications.No registration required for in-person attendance. Sea Education Association (SEA)

On Saturday, July 18, 2026 the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Woods Hole Flotilla will be conducting the one-day&nbsp;BOAT AMERICA&nbsp;boating safety class. The class will be held at the Sea Education Association at 171 Woods Hole Rd, Falmouth MA 02540. The time of the class is 8:30am (registration) until approximately 5pm. The cost is $25 per person.
This is an approved National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) 8-hour (one day) class. It provides the general knowledge needed to obtain the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Certificate and the Massachusetts Boating Safety Certificate required to operate a motorboat in Massachusetts by the Hanson-Milone Act of 2024. The Hanson-Milone Act requires motorboat operators born after January 1, 1989 to obtain a MA Boating Safety Certificate by April 1, 2026. Motorboat operators born before January 1989 have until April 1, 2028.

A Boating Safety Certificate has always been&nbsp;required for youth ages 12 through 15 to operate any motorized vessel alone, as well as youth ages 16 and 17 to operate a personal watercraft (Jet Ski®) alone in both Federal and MA waters.
TOPICS INCLUDE: Introduction to Boat types, Boating Law, Boat Safety Equipment, Safe Boating, Navigation, Boating Problems, Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat.
Registration confirmation is done by email and students must be registered by Thursday prior to the event.

Village Green Historical Walking Tour – at Museums on the Green

The Falmouth Historical Society and the Falmouth Garden Club are pleased to provide the opportunity to tour the spectacular gardens at the Museums on the Green this summer! Take a walking tour of each of the five gardens in this beautiful location led by Falmouth Garden Club members.
Tours on Tuesday or Saturday at 11am, allowing time to visit the buildings.
The tour will last about 40 minutes. The dates are as follows:

Sea Stars Early Learning Center

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
