Woods Hole Woman’s Club Talk: “Ancient Skeletons, Modern Cures”

Woods Hole Woman’s Club Talk:  “Ancient Skeletons, Modern Cures”  New approaches to repairing and regenerating human joints
Featured speaker will be Dr Andrew Gillis, exploring the unique properties of fish skeletons and how studying them can inspire new approaches to repairing and regenerating human joints. Dr. Gillis is an Associate Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory, where his work focuses on the development, evolution and regeneration of the vertebrate skeleton.  Integrating evolutionary biology, developmental genetics and regenerative biology, he explores how cartilage forms, grows and repairs, with particular emphasis on cartilaginous fishes such as sharks and skates.
The Club will meet at 11:30 am on Tuesday, October 13, at The Church of the Messiah Parish and Community Center, 16 Church Street in Woods Hole.  Light refreshments will be served and attendees may bring a brown bag lunch if they wish.  Non-members are welcome to attend as space permits.
The Woods Hole Woman’s Club brings members together to provide enrichment and mutual helpfulness for the betterment of Woods Hole and the surrounding communities.  Founded in 1914, members enjoy a variety of speakers and programs and raise money for college scholarships and support of community organizations. Monthly meetings from October through April include informative presentations, entertainment, and social events and new members are welcomed at any time during the year.  Information about membership is available at WHWCmembership@gmail.com.
