Cape Cod Fire Department Handles 24 Emergency Calls In 24 Hours

The unofficial start of summer has been exceptionally busy for first responders on Cape Cod. This is the latest example.

ORLEANS, MA — It's been a busy start to the unofficial beginning of summer for first responders on Cape Cod, and this past weekend was no different.

In Orleans, fire and rescue officials said the on duty crew - Group B - responded to 24 emergency calls during their 24 hour Saturday shift.

Those calls included multiple medical emergencies with transports to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, a water rescue and "many" calls related to the wind event yesterday afternoon.

That wind event knocked out power for residents across Cape Cod, and even prompted the early cancelation of a favorite local event.
