Cape Cod Seashore Salt Pond Visitor Center Reopens

The visitor center was closed after extreme cold caused a burst pipe. It is open as of Wednesday.

EASTHAM, MA — The Cape Cod National Seashore was one of a few businesses, organizations and other community gathering places affected by the extreme cold of recent weeks.

Officials closed the Salt Pond Visitor Center for the week of Feb. 6 after stating that the cold caused issues at the location, which included a burst pipe. On Wednesday, officials announced that the center is reopened.

"The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the Salt Pond Visitor Center has reopened," officials said.

The problems surfaced over the weekend of Feb. 4, when the National Weather Service recorded temperatures as low as -9 over the weekend, with wind chills dipping as low as -36.
