Cape Cod Towns Impose Tougher Beach Restrictions Amid Coronavirus

FALMOUTH, MA — Several Cape Cod town have imposed tougher beach restrictions to limit crowds and lessen the spread of the coronavirus.

The Cape Cod Times reported Mashpee, Falmouth, Sandwich, Barnstable and Yarmouth have all taken steps to limit capacity at beach parking lots and in some cases, made certain beaches for residents only.

In Masphee, the Board of Selectmen temporarily beaches to just residents. The board will hold a public hearing Monday to decide whether to make the restriction permanent.

Town officials in Barnstable and Sandwich also took steps to restrict beach access at certain beaches. Yarmouth officials are also considering a similar proposal. Falmouth has expanded parking lot capacity for town residents only at several popular beaches, including Bristol, Megansett and Stoney beaches.
