Cape Coronavirus Field Hospital Closes
A 94-bed field hospital to combat the new coronavirus on Cape Cod has closed after just two weeks of operation.
BOURNE, MA — A field hospital to help combat the new coronavirus on Cape Cod has closed after opening just over two weeks ago.
The hospital at Joint Base Cape Cod opened April 20 as a step-down facility for patients not in critical condition but still not well enough to be sent home.
Gov. Charlie Baker toured the field hospital last month, along with officials from Cape Cod Healthcare, who expected the94-bed facility to be used during a surge of cases in Massachusetts. The site was no longer needed, according to Cape Cod Healthcare CEO Mike Lauf. Lauf said no COVID-19 patients needed to be admitted at the facility in the two weeks it was open.
