Barnstable County commissioners are slated today to discuss coastal dredging, clean water management and other issues.

FALMOUTH, MA — Barnstable County commissioners today will discuss some environmental issues that have long simmered on the Cape.

Among the agenda items for the off-site forum, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Falmouth Town Hall, 59 Town Hall Square:

Septic utilities and clean water. County staff will present updates on clean water and wastewater management efforts, including work related to urine diversion projects and regional strategies to reduce nutrient pollution affecting local waters.

Barnstable County Dredge Program. Commissioners will receive an update on the county’s dredging program, including a summary of activities related to Falmouth, its harbor maintenance and navigation.

The commonwealth has said on its website that dredging channels along the Massachusetts coastline is "an important part of its viability as a navigable region." But the current state budget does not include dredging grant funds that towns such as Falmouth have relied upon in previous years.
