Coast Guard Auxiliary - 2019 BOAT RESPONSIBLY AWARD

The Woods Hole based U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla was presented the U.S. Coast Guard First District 2019 Boat Responsibly Award during their monthly Flotilla meeting on July 21, 2020 which was conducted via video-conference in July. CDR Matthew Barker, Director of the Auxiliary, First District, presented the award to Flotilla Commander Russ Gasdia on behalf of RADM Andrew Tiongson, who was Commander, First Coast Guard District during 2019. The award was "For superior performance and support in the execution of the First Coast Guard District Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) mission from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019."

During this period, the Woods Hole Flotilla encouraged responsible boating and paddling through extensive public outreach, boating safety education, recreational vessel safety checks, marine retailer visits, participation in Coast Guard boating safety operations, and other high profile public boating events.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer, uniformed, civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. The Auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939.
