BUZZARDS BAY, MA — A Massachusetts Environmental Police officer was surprised by some rare visitors to Buzzards Bay this week. The officer, Lt. Matt Bass, told Boston.com he was in his patrol boat when he spotted "hundreds and then maybe thousands" of dolphins swimming through the bay.

A pod of dolphins that size is rare in Buzzards Bay and is more likely to be seen in Cape Cod Bay or the Outer Cape, Boston.com reported. The Massachusetts Environmental Police shared a video of the sighting on its Facebook page Tuesday.

"Officers met some out-of-towners today while on patrol in Buzzards Bay," the department wrote.
