"Friends, I want to thank everyone for their hard work, well wishes, and support over these past 13 months of campaigning for Barnstable County Sheriff. Early this morning the final numbers came in and we came up short by just over 3,500 votes. We gave this race our all and I am blessed to have had so much support from so many great people.
I want to wish Donna Buckley the very best in her new role as Sheriff and want nothing but the best in the future for the hardworking and dedicated staff at our Sheriff’s Office. What great people they are.
Lisa and I look forward to discovering whatever new path it is the Lord has in store for me. I have two months left serving as the State Representative from the 1st Barnstable District and promise to give my very best, as I have these past eight years I have been blessed to serve. Thank you all."
The Sheriff's Office formally welcomed Buckley in a Facebook post on Wednesday, and Buckley shared a simple message ahead of her tenure in office.
"So proud to be your new Sheriff Elect," she said. "Thank you to everyone."
