Barre Classes at the Cape Cod Dance Center

The Barre class is the new "in" thing! Combining elements from the traditional ballet class with yoga and Pilates, the Barre class is a one-hour total body workout that you will want to add to your weekly conditioning routine. Starting on May 22nd, three classes weekly will be offered at the Cape Cod Dance Center's Annex studio in Falmouth. Starting at $15 for a single class or $65 for 5 classes, classes will be offered on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and Tuesday evenings at 6:15p.m. The classes are open to students with no to little previous dance experience. Previous body conditioning is recommended.

Julie Richer will instruct the class. Julie’s Barre experience grew from Pilates as a way to work with choreography and music in a group exercise setting. She enjoys working with clients at all levels as they grow stronger and more flexible through Barre and Pilates. Barre class begins with a warm-up, free-weight exercises and push-ups and moves on to intense leg and seat work at the bar, then abdominal work at the bar and on mats. Every exercise includes active stretching and is followed by additional stretching to elongate the muscles just worked.

The class is performed at the barre and on a mat to strengthen, stretch, and align all major muscle groups resulting in power, physical grace, stamina, and significant body change. The Barre class alternates between exercises that demand intense bursts of energy and deep stretches. This format produces both high caloric burn and firmer muscle mass. Most students who regularly attend Barre Classes become slimmer and lighter. Change in strength and flexibility are attained quickly, sometimes within months.

Barre Class is recommended at least twice a week for maximum results. The class may be taken once of week if you exercise regularly. The class is an effective, safe way to firm muscles and create body awareness. The trained instructors provide modifications to accommodate pre-existing injuries and varying levels of fitness.
Julie is a trained and certified Barre and Pilates instructor. Prior to training in Pilates she was for many years an interior designer as well as mother to twins. Her experience includes teaching figure skating as well as Barre and Pilates. She has experience teaching Pilates to individuals, small groups and in a group exercise setting on the reformer/tower equipment as well as mat based Pilates.
Her own experience with Pilates began after the birth of twins as a way to re-build strength and flexibility along with muscle stabilization to combat some of the lingering effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Julie’s experience includes working with people from age 12 to 87 as they work through Pilates to dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs.
