Because it is durable, inexpensive and incredibly versatile, polymer clay is an increasingly popular medium for fine artists as well as crafters. It can be sculpted, extruded, textured and mixed with other media; after curing in a regular home oven, the clay can be sanded, carved, painted and even turned on a lathe.
In this workshop, we will explore the clays's chameleon-like ability to imitate natural materials be making beads, buttons and pendants using opaque and translucent forms of the clay. We will practrice basic polymer clay techniques like the Skinner blend and mokume gane. Once students' pieces are cured, we will incorporate our new treasures into bracelets or necklaces by stringing them with accent beads.
