Illustrated Talk: Biking Across France

Woods Hole resident Ben Bianchini will give an illustrated talk at the Woods Hole Public Library on Monday evening May 23 at 7:30 PM about his bicycle trip across France last summer, just after his graduation from Falmouth Academy. Ben and his friend Mike Deasy, who also graduated from Falmouth Academy in 2010, biked for 10 weeks.  They  started in Paris, where they landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport  with their bikes in boxes. The  first leg of their trip was by train  into the city with the unwieldy boxes. There they put the bikes back together again,  mounted, and started off to the west, travelling towards Rennes, their first big stop. They usually made about 40 miles (65 kilometers) a day, and spent the nights on farms or in the woods, sleeping in a tent. Altogether they traveled about 1,150 miles on their bikes. Among other scenic spots, they visited Arles, Bordeaux, and the French Alps.

The talk is free and open to the public and will be held in the lower level meeting room of the Library, which is handicapped accessible. For more information, call the Library a 508-548-8961 or visit the website at woodsholepubliclibrary.org.
