Twenty-two poets will read their winning poems along with 5 community leaders and personalities. Adelaide Cummings, Falmouth’s first poet laureate, will begin the event by reading a selection of her favorite poems. She will be followed by police Chief Anthony Riello, who has read selected poems at the Fest for the past 4 years. Representative David Viera will also be in attendance to read along with Carolyn Powers, the former executive director of the Falmouth Historical Society. The final guest reader will be actor Adam Nelson, a Bourne resident who has appeared in the movies The Abyss and Mystic River and on television shows CSI, Six Feet Under, The X-Files, and Without a Trace.
Katharine Lee Bates (aka Annie Hart Cool) will speak to the poets about her life and offer all attendees ice cream and cake to honor her 153rd birthday. Local vocalist Stephanie Miele will lead the audience in singing America the Beautiful.
