Photography by the late Ned Manter will be on display in the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from May 1 through May 31. The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
Ned Manter was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 24, 1951. He grew up in Lexington, MA and graduated from Lexington High School in 1970. He attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute where he pursued a degree in Oceanography/Marine Biology. After graduating from SMVTI, Ned joined Texas Instruments where he studied the impact of industrial pollution on the striped bass population and migration. Employed as a staff photographer by Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Maryland, he was based in New York, which made it possible for him to observe some of the most important and experienced photographers of the time. He learned his craft through observation - he was essentially self-taught. His work kept him close to nature as it took him up and down the New England coast photographing marine life, thereby enhancing his love of nature.
Ned’s passionate interest in conservation combined with his creativity led him to a career as a nature photographer/artist. He left the profession of marine biology to become a full time photographer. For decades, he photographed the natural environment of Cape Cod, specializing in timeless images that present nature to us revealing no evidence of the affects of man. Ned owned his own business, ‘Creative Camera Concepts.’ He loved the Cape and drew much of his inspiration from the Ashumet Holly Reservation, the Cape beaches and 'Four Ponds' in Pocasset. Ned’s expertise attracted numerous art professionals who came to his Pocasset studio to have their own artwork photographed.
