Fall Classes Forming at the Falmouth Arts Center
A variety of artistic forms are on the agenda this autumn.

The Falmouth Arts Center's fall classes have begun, with groups covering a variety of media and forms providing activities for artists of all ages.
Two painting classes kick off tomorrow. Painting the Tonal Landscape will help you turn photographs into oil and acrylic representations of shadow and light, lending commonplace scenes a unique and expressive feel. Instructor Terry Dunn will help you choose the right colors to use for various lighting conditions, and eliminate excess detail unnecessary to the overall composition. The class meets Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to noon, through Oct. 24. Painting with a Palette Knife meets Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m., also through Oct. 24. Dan Hanagan will teach participants to shape texture and mix colors directly on the canvas.
Thursday offers intermediate and advanced practitioners of SAORI free form weaving a chance to hone their skills, creating custom designs and gaining experience with the loom. Meanwhile, Art 201 will let those with some painting experience gain further expertise with guided sessions and individual instruction. Both classes take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and run through Oct. 25. Painting and Critique, Thursdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m., provides intermediate and advanced painters the chance to practice in whichever medium they choose, plus individual guidance from Robert Roark and fellow classmates.

On Friday mornings from 9:30 to noon, members of the Artists Guild can stop by for Friday Figure Group, a class providing weekly assignments and constructive criticism in the art of drawing the clothed figure. Also on Fridays, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., beginning watercolor painters, and those looking to practice the form, can try Jump Into Watercolor. Kate Furler teaches the basics of composition, perspective, and color mixing, and provides direction to participants. Both classes run through Oct. 26, with Jump Into Watercolor skipping the Oct. 5 session.
New classes continue in the next two weeks, including Photoshop Elements I, Intermediate Pastel Painting, and Life Drawing. The Arts Center's program of after-school classes begins in the next two weeks as well, with the elementary school group starting Thursday, Sept. 27, and the painting class for kids 10 and older beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Both after-school classes last from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and run for five weeks.
