String players will generally have at least one assignment in an ensemble with winds. Repertoire will be assigned at least 4 weeks in advance and will be chosen based on ability, experience, and stated preference. Upon acceptance, participants will be asked to complete a repertoire form and provide information on their musical experience. No audition tape is required but is recommended as a useful tool for placement (recording can be sent later).

Clayworks: Two Weeks of Clay with Sarah Caruso (ages 7-12; 8:30am-12:30pm)

Clay allows young artists to express their creativity and share their energy in a get messy, hands-on way. In this class we will learn some of the skills for making our creative visions a reality. Create coil vessels, learn how to wedge, make self-portraits, build pinch pots, and construct whistles that really blow! As well, every student will have the opportunity to try their hand at the potter’s wheel. Prior to the final Friday, the class will make Native American-styled pieces, fire them in their own hand-built kiln, and experience the magic of clay becoming pottery!

Puppets: Building and Bringing Them to Life! (ages 7-12; 8:30am-12:30pm)

Play with fabric, yarn, and other materials:  paints, glue, brushes, and a few other tools. Design and shape the body of the puppet, its hairstyle, and costume. Then learn how to make your puppet come alive and be a character in a zany play. Learn lines, rehearse your part, and put on a show for all your workshop friends and family. These presentations are always a huge hit!

Batik Art With Sheila Payne (ages 9-12; 8:30am-12:30pm)

In this hugely popular class, plain white surfaces will be transformed into brilliant pictures of the students’ design using intricate tools, hot wax, and dyes. This ancient technology is challenging and a tremendous amount of fun!
