Falmouth Art Center’s Online Auction Offers Selection of Artwork

More than 10 years ago, when the Falmouth Art Center was known as the Falmouth Artists Guild, the group’s annual auction, held outside and open to all, was anticipated by art lovers
throughout town.

The pandemic over the past two years has nudged the Falmouth Art Center to a myriad of technical advances and among those advances is putting the annual auction online.
Now the auction lasts for one month online and anyone in the world can bid on the items.
This year the auction is bigger than ever with 74 items, including original artworks by local
artists, unique experiences, and colorful gift baskets from local stores.
The nautical theme of this year’s event inspired a number of auction item experiences, including use of one of the iconic Woods Hole houseboats for an afternoon; tickets on the Liberte schooner out of Falmouth Harbor; and a motorboat ride and picnic at Hadley’s Harbor in the Elizabeth Islands.

There are also paintings by sought-after local artists including Ruth Leech, Sigrid Hecker, San Lyman and Herb Edwards, among others; locally made pottery by Seth Rainville, Joanie Cribben, Melissa Hofer and Bob Templeton; and sculptures by Hugh Gibbons and Sue Beardsley.
A special part of the auction every year are donated artworks made by artists, some who have passed away, who were involved in earlier years of the Falmouth Artists Guild. This year that tradition continues with, among others, watercolors by Edith Bruce, one of the founders of the
Guild; by Claude Croney, a colorful character and accomplished artist from the early years of the Guild; and by Louise Luckenbill, a talented artist and MBL scientist.

The auction items will be displayed in person at the Falmouth Art Center from July 1 to 8,
culminating in the Art Center’s annual ARTrageous Gala: Arts Ahoy on July 8 from 5 to 7pm. The auction will end two hours after the gala, at 9pm on July 8.
