Falmouth Fire Department Responded To Nearly 9K Calls In 2022

It was a busy year for the Falmouth Fire Department, which could see new positions added in the near future.

FALMOUTH, MA — The Falmouth Fire/Rescue Department responded to nearly 9,000 service calls in 2022. That's a busy year for the department, which is looking for additional staffing in Falmouth's Fiscal Year 2024 budget.

In a Facebook post on New Year's Day, the fire department shared their call total from 2022.

"Our department responded to 8,920 calls for service in 2022. Our department and personnel continue to look ahead and will meet the many challenges we face on any given day with the continued support of the community," the department said.

Falmouth's Fire/Rescue Department consistently pushes for additional staffing as their call numbers increase.

In the 2023 budget proposal, the department asked for six additional firefighters, and, according to Capecod.com, Acting Town Manager Peter Johnson-Staub said the department is looking for funds to hire 14 new positions in 2024.

"Those new positions are beneficial and will result in improved fire and Emergency Medical Services, whether we’re operating five stations or six stations, but the 14 additional fire department positions become a necessity if we are staffing six stations," Staub said at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting.
