Falmouth Massachusetts Offshore Cables Grind To A Halt

The town of Falmouth started negotiations with an offshore wind company in 2019.

The process requires offshore high-voltage cables to go through residential communities to get to the electric grid. The alternative is submarine cables from offshore to large cities such as Boston where the power will be used.

Note # 1 Basically it's cheaper to go through residential towns rather than expensive submarine cables.

The first Falmouth public meeting was in June 2022 in which over 90 percent of the town was against the buried high-voltage wind turbine cables and a massive six-acre high-voltage power station in the Cape Cod aquifer.

In April 2023 Falmouth Town Meeting backed the Select Board's decision to deny further soil tests for the cable project.

The national news media recently reported on the Falmouth offshore wind company on July 15, 2023, called :
"Budding U.S. offshore wind industry facing rough seas"

The wind company switched to placing their ocean cables through Portsmouth, Rhode Island to get to the new Brayton Point high-voltage power station.

The town of Portsmouth RI held a public meeting with the wind company where just like Falmouth the residents were over 90 percent against the high-voltage cables.

The Rhode Island Energy Facility Siting Board voted unanimously on July 13, 2023, to stop the application process until the project is rebid possibly next year.

The RI EFSB decision came after an email from a Rhode Island state engineer from the Coastal Resources Management Council caused controversy over the offshore wind company.
