Recodifying Zoning Bylaws - Eliminating Definitions

Falmouth Planning Board is holding a public hearing on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 6:30 pm.

The hearing includes not only wind turbine definitions but also multi-use housing developments, water usage issues, etc.

ARTICLE: To see if the Town will vote to amend Chapter 240 – Zoning – of the Code of Falmouth by deleting certain definitions from Section 240-3.3
Section 3.3 Page 25 Current Definition :
Wind Energy System (WES) – All equipment, machinery, and structures utilized in connection with the conversion of wind to electricity. This includes, but is not limited to, transmission, storage equipment, substations, transformers, service and access roads, and one or more wind turbines.

On June 8th, 2022 offshore wind contractors proposed placing underground cables greater than the output of the Pilgrim nuclear plant through residential streets of Falmouth.
In addition, a first-in-the-nation acre HVDC, high voltage direct current converter station has been proposed within the Cape Cod aquifer and a nearby reservoir. Noise is an issue with HVDC converter stations.
Zoning laws are created for the simple purpose of protecting the health, safety, and general welfare of the people as relates to land use.
