Falmouth Onshore High Voltage 1200 MW Cables Study

Offshore wind would like to route 1200 megawatts of buried power through the Town of Falmouth to off-cape locations.

Note# (To put the 1200 megawatts in perspective the total output of the Pilgrim nuclear plant was 680 megawatts.)

A study will be done by ISO New England to determine how the project will move forward.

The offshore wind company proposes placing buried multiple high-voltage direct current cables through residential locations in the Town of Falmouth.

Note# Onshore Substation – The onshore substation transforms the power to grid voltage, stepping up to 345 kV.

According to an April 27, 2023, local news story: The offshore wind company's power needs exceed the current power grid capacity thus wind company must pay for the upgrades.
ISO New England will conduct a feasibility study. The upgrade will be completed by 2028.
