Falmouth Police Issue Sex Offender Alert

Richard Monterio, convicted of five sex assault charges, is required to register his address annually

Police recently issued an alert about a Falmouth sex offender with five sex assault convictions.

Richard A. Monterio, 45, lives at 85A Grace Ct. in East Falmouth.

He’s a Level 3 sex offender—meaning the state believes he’s at a “high risk to reoffend.”

“The degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active community notification,” according to the state’s Sex Offender Registry Board.

In 2006, Monterio was convicted of three counts of raping a child. In 2002, he was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a child. He’s required to register his address annually—prompting Falmouth police to issue an alert on their Facebook page.

Authorities stressed that using information contained in the sex offender registry to commit a crime or threaten someone is punishable by up to 2 1/2 years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
