Falmouth Slows Growth of US Wind Industry

Congress took Massachusetts Governor Charles D. Baker Jr. to the floor regarding the Falmouth wind turbines at a hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee on February 6, 2019.

Falmouth, Massachusetts, politicians spent $12 million on the disastrous wind turbines and millions more on engineering firms and litigation . Up to 200 residents could not bear the noise and shadow flicker of the over 400-foot turbines in their neighborhood.

Governor Baker agreed the project had major problems.

One major problem is the turbines used 5 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funds to take the health and safety of neighbors and after the courts shut down the two town-owned Vestas V-82 turbines in June of 2017 the loan plus two percent remains unpaid.

The wind turbines were not installed with “good intentions.” The town hid a "smoking gun" noise warning letter and emails prior to construction that each wind turbine generates 110 decibels for a total of 113 decibels with both turbines operating needing a 3000-foot setback from residential homes.

August 3, 2010 Vestas Warning Letter: "The Town has previously been provided with the Octave Band Data / Sound performance for the V82 turbine. This shows that the turbine normally operates at 103.2dB but the manufacturer has also stated that it may produce up to 110dB under certain circumstances."

By January 2019 the Falmouth Select Board asked the town manager and attorney to develop an RFP, Request for Proposal to disassemble the turbines.

By November 2019 the Falmouth Select Board asked Town Meeting for 2.5 million and more down the road to disassemble the turbines.

The Select Board now has given the town manager until the end of the fiscal year 2022 to dispose of the wind turbines. By the end of fiscal year 2022 the two town owned wind turbines will be over 25 years old in terms of 1990 engineering.

Massachusetts industrial wind turbines are a bunco scheme of enormous consequence. The people who value intellectual honesty should not quietly be fleeced by such mendacity, even from their government officials.
