Falmouth Spring Hydrant Flushing Scheduled For This Week

FALMOUTH, MA — Spring hydrant flushing season is upon us in Falmouth, which means hydrants are set to be flushed in the evening this week.

According to Falmouth officials, "flushing is an essential maintenance function necessary to maintain water quality, improve the carrying capacity of pipes, and ensure the proper operation of distribution system components, such as hydrants and valves."

Flushing will be conducted in the evening and night between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.

"While conducting flushing operations in your neighborhood, you may experience discolored water or a small drop in water pressure," officials said.

"Should your water appear reddish, yellow or brown, do not be alarmed. It is recommended you do not use the water or do laundry for two hours after noticing this discoloration. After you have waited, run your cold water tap (without the aerator screen) for five to ten minutes. This should remove any sediment from inside your service."
