Falmouth Tobacco Store Owner Wants To Open Cigar Bar
The owner of the C.B. Perkins tobacco shop wants to open a cigar bar, and Falmouth Board of Health officials voiced opposition.

FALMOUTH, MA — The owner of a Falmouth tobacco shop inquired with the Board of Health about opening a cigar bar at his store. Anil Diwan runs C.B. Perkins at 278 Teaticket Highway and said he's looking to provide smokers with "a nice place to go" with ventilation systems that carry the smoke away, the Falmouth Enterprise reported.
No action was taken by the board at its Nov. 25 meeting because the discussion wasn't on the agenda, but several board members spoke in opposition to Diwan's inquiry saying it wouldn't be appropriate for health officials to make an unhealthy habit like smoking more accessible.
"I hear what you want to do," board member Stephen Rafferty said. "As a member of the board of health, I will oppose it because smoking is bad for people. You've chosen a business to sell something that is bad for people's health, and I will do whatever I have to do to make sure we make it as hard for people to smoke in a public place as we can make it."
